“Aspects of the History of Computing in Modern Greece” publication in IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, Volume: 40, Issue: 1, Jan.-Mar. 2018, pages 47-60, DOI 10.1109/ MAHC. 2018. 012171267, by Dritsa K. et al. is an article that aims to shed light on notable aspects of the history of computing in Greece, starting from 1920. The article covers the early days of computing in Greece, the transition to the Internet era, the formation of a computer-related educational infrastructure, the evolution of data networks, and the growth of the software and hardware industry.
The IEEE article incorrectly refers to the migration of the Greek NREN from OSI to IP protocols as an activity of GRNET (coordination by NTUA) where the correct statement should refer to this activity being part of NREN “Ariadne Network” (coordination by NCSR Demokritos) that was the official NREN of GREECE at that time until 1994. GRNET undertook full works of NREN activity by 1996 where a new State organization was established under the name GRNET.
